How do I send a Physical Check?

To send a payment by check, log into your NorthOne Account and use the Send a check method.

At NorthOne, we understand that business owners need the ability to send checks and are happy to offer this option through your Account.

There is a $1 fee to send a check for NorthOne Standard members. Checks can be sent completely free of charge for our NorthOne Plus members.

Currently, the ability to send checks from your NorthOne Account is only available in the mobile app.

Here’s how to do send a physical check right from your NorthOne Account:

  1. Log into your NorthOne Account on the mobile app

  2. Click Pay at the top of the homepage

  3. Click Send a check

  4. Select a previous recipient, or click Add a new recipient and follow the prompts

  5. Review & confirm that the recipient details are correct

  6. Select if you’d like to send the funds from an Envelope or the main Deposit Account

  7. Enter the value of the check

  8. Add a memo to your check

  9. Review & click Send payment

  10. Click Done to return to the homepage

The recipient should then receive that physical check in the mail 3-9 business days after the date the payment was initiated. All NorthOne Standard Customers pay a $1 fee at the time of initiation for sending a physical check.

How long does it take to send a check?

The recipient should receive that physical check in the mail 3-9 business days after the date the payment was initiated. You will receive a notification in-app when your recipient has deposited the check.

If the check has not arrived within the 9 business day window and you have already confirmed that the sending address is correct, you can reach out to the support team through in-app chat to assist you in canceling the check and sending a new one. Remember that weekends and bank holidays will not count towards the 9 business day timeline. It can be better to wait a couple more days than cancel a check and risk voiding the one in route to send a new one.

Can I cancel a check?

If the check has not yet been deposited, it can be cancelled at any point. To do so, reach out to our support team through in-app chat with the check details. It can take 1-3 days for the funds to be returned to your NorthOne account after cancelation. There will be a line item for the canceled check and a line item for the returned check funds.

Do these checks expire?

If the recipient does not deposit the check within 180 days, the check will expire, and the funds will return to your NorthOne Account.

What do the checks look like?

The checks will be coming from a Bank of America account and will be written to the recipient as you filled out in-app including any memos.
